We did Newsies 2 years ago and had a blast. We don't necessarily have plans per se, but I can try to walk you through how we did the press and newspaper stacks. Both were easily constructed and didn't take too much time.

Hi Melinda,

We just produced NEWSIES in December.  We had local steel company build the 3, 15.5' tall rolling steel towers, and 2 ,11.5' tall rolling double decker balcony pieces to our specifications.  We also have a self built rolling staircase that goes to the top level of the balcony/2nd level of the towers.  These pieces reflect the Broadway set pieces.  The towers also have 6, rolling muslin screen that fill each of the 6 "boxes" of the 3 towers for projections to be used.

We are looking to rent and/or sell these pieces.  We are in Lincoln, NE.  I believe you are in Vail, so it would be about an 8 hour, 30 minute drive if you are interested in them.  I'll try to upload some pics for you.

Hi,

I used string and made stacks about 10” high and used the black and white parts on top to cover colors.

As for the printing press, it was fashioned together using folding rack with some round wood painted black… very simple. For the scene the kids opened and shut the folding rack and slid papers through from off stage.
