Good evening! This is my first post on this website and actually my first time ever visiting it! I'm so happy to have found this site as you all have some great info/threads on here. I've been exploring the use of projections from BMD and have never used them before and I have some questions for those of you who have:
- The show I am considering using them for is Children of Eden which I am planning to present as a concert version (actually at my church, not school this time) so I will absolutely be using projections in some form. I'm considering BMD for this because as far as I can see, theirs seem to be the most detailed and the fact that they are animated is everything to me for this production. I will not use a plain background projection. I also know that BMD is VERY expensive in comparison to others but they seem to me to be worth the price. Are they? Is there another company out there that does the same type of quality of animated projections that I am not seeing?
- MY MAJOR CONCERN: Admittedly, I am a bit of a control freak (I mean, I AM a director after all LOL) and originally I had planned to work with my husband (who is an IT Director) and design our own projections. As I said, I want to use animated projections for this production. MOST IMPORTANTLY - I NEED them to be timed perfectly and flow with the music. Since this is a concert production, and I have as much of a music background as I do a theatrical one (which is my entire life) I am really dedicated to the projections flowing and matching with the music - changing on the exact beats, matching the tone of the moment, building with crescendos, etc. That being said, I cannot seem to find anything where I can actually sample a song (more than 30 seconds) that is set to music so I can see them in action before I decide. Is this possible? Or do I have to pay for them and hope for the best until I get to see them?
- Pricing - BMD seems to have a flat fee system to pay for the rights to the projections however, what they include is WAY more than I will need. For example, I am planning (with MTI's approval and proper licensing of course) to only present Act I of Children of Eden and perhaps we may consider performing Act 2 in a year or even later. This is also just one performance, as I said in a church. Has anyone had any experience with BMD being willing/able to provide different pricing than the 2 flat fee prices on their website? I just hate to pay so much when I won't be using most of the time, features, and an entire act of the show's worth of projections.
Thank you all SO much for your time in reading this and responding. I know I put a lot out there for my first post, but I figured I'd rather just ask it all at once. I VERY much look forward to your responses and to be a member of this community moving forward.
