I teach a beginning Acting class at the high school level with approximately 15 students.  I'm looking for a short One Act that we can workshop in class and showcase as their final at the end of the semester.  Mostly girls, but a few guys. Would love any suggestions.  Comedy or drama, limited/no set, limited props, contemporary.  Share with me what you've done that you love!

    Thank you!!!

My final play as a director was GOSSIP.  Enjoyed by actors and we'll received by audience as well as administration.

We do a one act student directed showcase every year. You might want to check out these. They were hits with our students and audience.

I second: 146 Point Flame, Radium Girls and I Never Saw Another Butterfly.  All wonderful shows.

I have had great success with Garth Stein's No One Calls Me Mutt Anymore.  And there are no royalties to perform this play; you just have to post on his website when and where it's happening.

    Happy Back-to-School Theatre teachers/directors!

2 years ago Kansas City -universities, professional theatres and a few high schools- celebrated Molière 's 400th birthday by collectively producing, celebrating and engaging in his works. We created a pairing of one -acts that exceeded all expectation: as an educational opportunity (history & commedia!), both students and audiences loved it.

Act 1: Molière 's original "Precious Young Ladies"

Act 2: A contemporary corollary "The Precious Young Men"

We commissioned playwright Alli Jordan to come up with a comedic satire on the stressors for today's young adults in a hyper-polarized, social media-dominated, cancel culture world. Ms. Jordan came up with a remarkable piece that finds heart and humor, inclusivity and respect amidst the absurdities of our day to day lives.

It was highlighted and awarded throughout the professional and educational theatre communities in the region.

I am happy to put you in touch with Alli Jordan or share more insights if you are interested.

    Warmly,
