Hello! I'm a theatre student looking for a couple of monologues for use in a state competition. We have auditions on the 16th and I need these monologues as soon as possible. I have been looking for weeks, but I can't seem to find quality material. Please, if any of you know of any worthy male monologues from published plays, I will be very appreciative. Thank you!

Have you looked at Red by John Logan? I'm really into Ken's monologues from it, but I'm not sure if they're overdone by this point or not. Either way, you should look into it if you haven't. :)

Good monologues are like Gold... it requires a lot of digging!!!

For your timeframe you might want to go to the library and find a compilation book that has lots of monologues.  Or you can camp out on the aisle of the library that has actor copies of plays and thumb through a few hundred books for an afternoon to find one or two good ones.

    break a leg!

Are you looking for dramatic, comedic, or both? My students really like The Complete Works of WIlliam Shakespeare (Abridged) for comedic and They tend to look at Elephant Man for Dramatic. Good luck.

BTW... do you have any pocket monologues that you're confident with?

    Tom from Glass Menagerie
    Jim from Glass Menagerie
Biff from Death of a Salesman
    Jason from Rabbit Hole
    Carter from Fat Pig
    Jedediah from The Laramie Project
    Treat from Orphans
    Willum from The Nerd
    Andrew from I Hate Hamlet

Sometimes you can piece together a strong monologue by cutting other characters' lines.

    Best wishes!

I recently compiled a (rather large) scene and monologue database for a youth thespian festival we held here last weekend.  We created a website for it: http://drama.enreachedu.com.  Once you load it, you must choose the English tab, then select "competition." Scroll down a bit and click "download script database." The students that participated in our competition ranged from middle school through high school.  It's about 40 pages of Shakespeare scenes and monologues, and contemporary and dramatic scenes and monologues.  If you want it, download it right away since the festival has passed and the website will likely be shut down soon.
