In Act 1 scene 1 of Annie Get Your Gun, Annie shoots a bird off Dollie's hat. Anyone know a slick trick to making this work? Or any of the other shooting stuff effects in the show for that matter? ------------------------------------------- Scott Hasbrouck Lakewood CO -------------------------------------------

We just did AGYG. My TD rigged a mousetrap on top of the hat. Dolly had a mirror with her luggage and was "preening herself". She released the trap and sent the fake bird flying. CS worked like a charm.

Fishing line from off stage should pull the bird right off.  Gun shots can be made by slapping a piece of lumber on the wooden floor.  It keeps the  sound local to the pistol.

Be creative!  When we did AGYG, we used fishing line, but Dolly controlled it.  It was tied to her finger, so when she startled from the shot, the bird flew off her hat.

We also did a shooting trick where we lowered Annie down on a swing, and she shot balloons off of people's heads.  The girls held the balloons on their heads and with each shot, popped the balloons with a straight pin that was taped to their index finger.

Annie and Frank's shooting contest was done out towards the audience.  Two guys on each corner of the stage pretended to throw the discs and Annie and Frank followed them with their eyes and shot them.

All of our guns were cap guns.  Loud enough in our theater for the right effect without blasting anyone's eardrums.

It's a great show!  Have fun with it!

I bought a plastic dart gun and attached the bird to the dart and fixed the gun to the hat in such a way that when dolly grabbed for her hat she pulled the trigger and the bird flew off.. I did have to cut away some of the gun handle and barrel to make it work. I would buy a couple of guns just in case the first one breaks while making it. ------------------------------------------- Susan Cortesi Director of Theatre District 87 Bloomington IL -------------------------------------------
