    Hello!

My school is looking at integrating courses this next year to create new opportunities for our students. The music teacher and I want to combine a semester-long Theatre appreciation course with a semester-long Music appreciation to create a year-long Musical Theatre course. Could anyone share their syllabus or curriculum with me? The administration is considering our course proposal and would also like to see a curriculum map or sequence. I have found some resources on the open forum, but haven't found a curriculum yet. Any help would be wonderful.

    Thank you!

I used this forum a few years ago to gather data to support starting a Musical Theatre class. We use it in conjunction with a musical we produce in the fall. After the musical is over and done with we do other things.

We generally set goals for the week and the music teacher and I split the time. So Mondays might be vocals for everyone, Tuesdays are Lead vocals, Wednesdays are Choreography, Thursdays are acting and character focused, and on Fridays we use what we worked on to knock out a scene or a number in the show we're working on.

After the show concludes we do a post-mortem exercise in which they reflect on the process and product. After which we focus on how you select and research musicals. They work in small groups and develop a presentation including a number from the show in order to pitch the ideas for which musical they want to propose for the following year.

I've got a slightly more detailed course outline, but it shifts each year based off of the show we are doing. We also talk about how you see and evaluate a musical and we go see one.
