Hello there!! I'm trying to think of some ideas of plays/musicals my community theatre could perform. We have a lot of teen participants from middle school to high school and even some college aged actors. There's also a decent handful of adults that enjoy participating. Including this year, the past three summer shows have been High School Musical, The Drowsy Chaperone, and Seussical. Those are the big summer productions but we do smaller ones in the fall like Amber Waves. Anyone have any suggestions on a possible show we could do in the future?? ------------------------------------------- Rebecca Moews -------------------------------------------

Hi Rebecca! It sounds like you have a great age range of participants that could lead to many suggestions, but I think it would help to know more about your theatre. What kind of space do you have? Is there room for a big set or do you need something more minimalist? What is your audience typically like? For example, I work with a community theatre that has a very small space and a pretty conservative audience, so that really limits our options when it comes to selecting our next season.

I am active in our local community theatre, which has a thrust stage and seating around 200. Here are some of the shows we've done recently or are currently working on:

Urinetown (high school show this summer)
    Oliver (current production)
Moving Mountains (great play about aging couples)
Alone Together and Alone Together Again (again, nice aging issues)
The Best Man (nice election piece we are staging this November)
    The King and I
    Spelling Bee
    Annie Get Your Gun
    Thoroughly Modern Millie
    Chicago
Clue: The Musical (great show -- we painted the floor to look like the game board)
    Cinderella
    Annie

    Hope this helps!
