  • 1.  Lesson Plan Ideas for "RESPOND"

    Posted 03-26-2017 10:18
    Good morning,
I have been teaching theatre for many years, but am new this year to the new standards CREATE, PERFORM, RESPOND, CONNECT.  I have to submit a digital portfolio that shows growth in my students in three of the four standards.  For RESPOND, I was going to use their play critiques.  Unfortunately, I didn't plan this well because their critiques are due April 6 and more portfolio is due the next week, which is also tech week for me.  What are some other ways to you guys teach RESPOND that I could easily do in one or two class periods next week?

    Thank you!

I use written critiques for responses.
You could also use socratic seminar. Have each come up with questions for discussion and then
you should get responses from that...
It can easily be done in a class period or two.

I have them write up a critique with some guided questions in order to reflect on their own experience with the process.

This is more of a pass/fail grade.

    Scene Work:
    1. Reflect on your scene experience.  Explain what you experienced.
    2. What would you change about the experience?  Explain.
    3. How did you work with your scene partners?  What complications arose?
    4. Explain the process you used for developing your character.
    5. Choose a scene that you viewed, critique the actor’s performance.
    6. How would have changed the scene you viewed?

    Production Reflection:
Reflect on your experience for the production.
    Submit your answers electronically.

    1. Explain your role for the production.
    2. Explain any challenges you had with the production.
    3. Describe what you would have changed about the production from your role.
      1. Lighting - colors, timing
      2. Costume - choices for characters
      3. Props - finding/creating
      4. Make-up
      5. Directing - blocking
      6. Acting - performing/character work
    4. Critique the process of your production from beginning to end.
      1. How would you improve it?

This is quick and easy.  You could also use the production one and change it for viewing a production.
    I hope this helps.
