  • 1.  Build Scaffolding for Newsies or other ideas

    We have a very small stage.  I would like to build temporary  levels left and right of the stage that could help extend the use of it.

    Looked at many photos...
    Are their any prefab kits for stairs, scaffolding, etc that might work.  The men that build things for me, tend to make things so clunky.

    We are doing Newsies in June and our scaffolding is pretty straightforward.  It assembles quickly and is pretty flexible.  We are renting (from a scaffolding company) the stairways, so that we can easily (in the dark) get up and down.  The normal distances between the vertical parts are 8 feet or 10 feet, so we have six verticals, and have four of them (with cross bracing) at eight feet and one in the middle that is 10 feet apart, but has no bracing, so that we can go through it.  The unit (picture attached) is wide enough that the ends are hidden by legs.  The platform is 6' off the ground, so the opening in the middle is around 5'10 – 5'11.

    Hello!
    I did Newsies for a community theatre last year and we rented scaffolding from a scaffolding company. Very safe, lots of options and inexpensive compared to the cost and time to build. We did add a few more safety rails and escape stairs in back. We chose to use scaffolding with paint drips all over it; was a great look and worked beautifully.
