Do you have an Ion lightboard? Are you confused on how to use it? Do your students know more than you? I'm looking for a 'guinea pig' just like you!

I'm about to launch the "Ion Lightboard Basics" online course, and I'd sure like to have one person try it out (for free!) first in order to catch any bugs, confusing instructions, or just typos, before the course goes live.

The 'guinea pig' would not be charged for the course. A win-win – you get a free online course, and I get some feedback. You will also receive a Certificate of Completion, indicating PD credit equivalent hours, for having completed the course. And, after the completion of the course, the student is then free to use the course documents to teach their own students each year.

If you would like to learn more about the basics of operating the Ion board (for free!), and have time to complete the 5 lesson online course at an accelerated pace (usually students have a full week to complete each lesson, but I'd like to go through each lesson in a two or three day time frame – still allowing for both our schedules, I know 'tech happens'), please contact me at Beth@PRESETT.org, and please let me know your level of experience and what you find is most confusing.

I've attached the syllabus, so that you can see the course curriculum, and you can see more about how the online course works at http://www.presett.org/litt.html.

Thanks in advance for being a guinea pig!

    Hey there,

One quick recommendation. For lesson 3, I recommend titling that DMX or Multi Address Control. As ML controls on EOS and patching on EOS isn't just for LEDs, it's for any multi-cell and multi-address fixture.

Also, ETC has easy access online courses available to anyone for all of its control consoles, including EOS, which is the operating system on an Ion. I would recommend taking some if not all of the course manuals from ETC and using them to teach. As it's a great tool to for both beginners and those already familiar with the ETC Ion and it's siblings.

Feel free to reach out to me via email if you have any questions or need any assistance.

    Best of luck!

Thanks for reaching out Jack!  Unfortunately I can't title a lesson something that it doesn't teach. This Ion Basics course is just that - the basics.  The LED lesson teaches patching and controlling of LEDs. Most educational theatres can't afford other multi- address fixtures - even though architects regardlessly insist on spec'ing Ions(!) - so the LED lesson intentionally tackles what most educators want to know.

I have developed a unique curriculum specifically for educational theatres, particularly with the needs of high school Drama teachers in mind.  However, thanks for pointing out ETC's manuals, and especially their videos. They're very useful. I'm glad there's something out there for different learning styles. I highly recommend them to those who like learning by video!

It appears you are very knowledgeable about, and comfortable with, the EOS family. Thanks for the offer of assistance, it sounds like you are a valuable resource for any Drama teachers who have 'smart' light technology in their school theatres!
