I've directed 6 (and a half) musicals since starting at my current school in 2016. Every year, I have student choreographers who have been long-time tap students. Thus, we frequently have big tap numbers. We refer to them as our "Gershwin moments," and the kids like trying to predict them as early as readthrough. We've had tap numbers in:
Disaster!- There's a huge tap number written into the show in "A Fifth of Beethoven," where they use tap dancing to send morse code signals.
Into the Woods- "Hello Little Girl" had a soft shoe from our dance corps of 8 girls.
Bye Bye Birdie- "Put on a Happy Face" with 30 kids. A challenge, but it turned out fantastic.
Jesus Christ Superstar- "Herod's Song" featured four of our girls, and Herod joined them for a giant kickline (naturally) at the end of the song.
You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown- Our 11th-grade choreographer was also cast as Snoopy. Anyone who knows the show, then, will not be surprised that "Suppertime" ended up a huge tap number.
