    Hello all,

I have a student in a class that I am trying to work with.
She will not be performing for a major grade in May. (two performances)
What independent projects have you given that would be comparable?

I'm racking my brain to think of alternate assignments but they are very boring.
This year has tapped me out! haha!

If you would be willing to share please send me what you have! :)

The ED TA has some great stand-alone units with ready-made lesson plans for technical theatre (and other aspects) here .

I might particularly recommend the Dramaturgy and/or the Stage Manager projects.

I agree, there are great projects for every area.  This a an assignment they had a great time with, based off of a find on EDTA but tweaked a little. It is creating a radio podcast

Give her a student-driven research project

You could have a menu of choices:
    1) dramaturgical research of some aspect of the performance

    2) create a pre/post show installation for the performance

    3) research a theatre career choosing a creator, producer, playwright, or "backstage storyteller highlighting the person and possible high school to career pipeline: influences, inspiration, training, college (including research about the college's program) early career and
    seminal work.

    4) regional, Broadway, TV, or film project - they enjoy or are curious about: creation/development history

    5)  interview a designer or "backstage storyteller" - use #3 to guide the focus

If there are issues with performing, perhaps writing criticism or a review could still allow her to work on some of the skills through observation and analysis of other's performances, if not her own? I like to show 2 versions of the same play and have kids critique the production elements as well as the acting. I've used 2 versions of 12 Angry men, For Colored Girls Considering Suicide When the Rainbow Isn't Enuff, Taming of the Shrew, and Romeo and Juliet.
