I'm looking to connect with anyone out there who teaches theatre as a special in K-5th-like PE, Art, or Music.

Teri, I teach each year a 6 week, 2 sessions each week course which culminates in audition and production of a Jr Script. Since it is an Arts and Global Studies Elementary School, the Theatre class is part of the 5th grade curriculum. I have one 5th grade class for 45 minutes then a 2nd 5th grade class. Teacher stays in the room and watches all students. My course work is similar to a beginning level middle or high school: ensemble experiences which teaches 21st century skills, presenting yourself with a slate, elements of mime with a daily activity then 5 senses mime; basic Improv principles, then What Are You Doing? Individual Improv as a 5 year old then same activity as a 90 year old, character creation with voice and body; Vocal work with commercials copy taken from magazines, (We record and listen answering the question Would you buy this product based on the commercial?) Tongue Twisters worked into an Improv ABA, One Minute Bedtime stories with different voices; Short monologue of 5 lines teaching CWOW for script analysis; Performance of Monologue; Different Kinds of Theatre Auditions from Cattle Call and Slate, to interview to Improv, to Cold reading; then we audition for the Jr Script, cast and spend the next 3 months in rehearsals and productions.
