I'd like to talk to someone who has had success with producing a "musical" event with your students and how you went about doing it. Did you use zoom? Did you make a pre-recorded film? Right now, it does not look feasible for us; but maybe someone has a solution?

    Hello,
We have not yet had the experience, but we plan on producing You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown outdoors with the audience and the production moving to various outdoor locations on our campus, keeping cast and audience masked and moving away from aerosol being produced after every major song/scene. Smaller cast, smaller audience size, shorter show.

YAGMCB works for this because the licensing allows us to cut the show quite a bit. We will shorten the production to under an hour. It is a small cast, but we are "multi-casting" meaning each scene in each location will have a different student playing each character. Downside: No one gets to be a lead that carries the whole show. Upside: more students get a shot at a scene/song as they share the characters. (Iconic and recognizable costumes and characterizations make this doable.)

Challenges: Creating safe audience spaces at each location and directing audience movement to keep them distanced and safe. Setting up lighting, sets, and sound in various locations. (But we are keeping things as simple as possible, lowering artistic standards a bit. No live musicians, for example; we'll perform to tracks. Simple lighting up and down, not much artistic theatrical lighting, etc.)

Auditions are this week. Performances in early March.
Good luck to all of us as we work and think and create outside the box.
