  • 1.  After show congratulations during Covid

    Posted 03-02-2021 10:20

Hello! I'm wondering if anyone has been fortunate to have a show with small live audience and if you were able to create an end of show atmosphere for congratulations?

Kids have worked hard, at the end folks usually get to hug and talk to attendees.

Any creative ways been tested to honor distancing yet interaction?

    Thank you,
    Melinda

HI!  We just finished our "fall" play last weekend.  (postponed last Nov.)  we were able to have a live show at 25% capacity and it went really well,  everyone distanced and wore masks.  We did have a quick, small congratulations after the show.  Most patrons were family and so we allowed photos with parents/grandparents.  We didn't kick anyone out, but I would say everyone dispersed with 15-20 minutes.  Break a leg - hope you get a little dose of normalcy!

We did outside greetings only and because we had kids come to the auditorium in full costume/makeup (cut down on dressing room needs) we let them leave and greet outside in full costume/makeup after a quick tidy up and reset . We usually do not allow greeting in costume/makeup after evening performances; however this little allowance made up for not getting to greet as usual inside. By doing it outside the kids were empowered to choose if they wanted to participate and to what extent too. Some just left or just went to their family and headed home. It was like stagedooring a Broadway show just more spread out. Way more people left after the show than stayed outside, certainly much more than usually would leave, so it helped cut the numbers down too.

In addition, we often do little backstage notes that people can purchase in the lobby to have delivered backstage during intermission or after the show. Depending on how coordinated the student house manager is these might include a flower or other little trinket with the note. While exchanging items might not be Covid approved, this could still happen via a Google Form or an online chat forum of some sort where family members and friends could offer their congratulations and greetings to let the student know they were there each night instead of doing an in person meet and greet after.
