Hi there!
Do you know a high school student with a passion for songwriting? Do they enjoy using music to tell stories? If so, we have exciting news to share!
We are pleased to announce the launch of the 2019 Musical Theater Songwriting Challenge in partnership with The National Endowment for the Arts, and with collaboration from Disney Theatrical Productions and Samuel French, Inc., a Concord Theatricals company. The Musical Theater Songwriting Challenge is a competition for high school songwriters to compete on the national level. Students across the nation can compose music for the chance to showcase their musical theater song, learn from musical theater professionals, and compete to be one of six finalists.
Each finalist will be paired with a musical theater mentor and music director to form a coaching team that will work directly with the student to hone all parts of their song. Additionally, each finalist's song will be transcribed, performed by Broadway singers and musicians, recorded, and broadcast over national radio. As in 2018, Samuel French, Inc., a Concord Theatricals company has generously agreed to publish a songbook containing each of the finalists' song in their transcribed form.
How exciting would it be to have something that started out as an idea into a professionally recorded and published song? All that's needed to take an idea from "Page to Stage" is an audio recording and lyrics for one original musical theater song.
The deadline to apply for the challenge is April 30th, 2019 at 11:59PM EST. Click here to start an application. Join the songwriting conversation using #IWriteMusicals.
If you have any questions about the process, please do not hesitate to reach out via email at melissa@americantheatrewing.org or call 212-765-0606.
We can't wait to hear the stories and songs that will be created!
Warm Regards,
