    Job Opening at St. John's School, Houston, TX

    Middle/Upper School Theatre
    (starting August 2022)

    St. John's School is seeking a full-time Theatre teacher. The ideal candidate will enjoy working primarily with middle school students (grades 6-8). Theatre teachers at St. John's work closely together to create a cohesive curriculum that builds from Middle to Upper School. St. John's School seeks educators who are innovative in their approach, open to feedback, and thrive in a collaborative environment. We expect members of our community to engage in conversations that support ongoing professional development in one's discipline, are open to interdisciplinary opportunities, and help further our school's strategic initiatives including community and inclusion. 

    Primary responsibilities include:

    • Teach (4) sections of Middle School Theatre
    • Serve as an advisor to 12-13 students annually
    • Serve in an advisory position to Johnnycake, the student-run theatre organization on campus
    • Direct (2) after-school theatre productions a year within the Middle and Upper School Theatre programs
    • Collaborate and coordinate closely with the theatre, dance, and music faculty 


    • Bachelor's degree in Theatre/Theatre Education; Master's or Master of Fine Arts degree preferred
    • Minimum of 3 years classroom teaching experience 
    • Experience in classroom theatre curriculum and directing theatre for young audiences
    • An understanding and commitment to cultural competency and how to support a diverse student population of learners
    • Excellent organizational, written, and verbal communication skills 
    • Additional experience with technical theatre or film production a plus
