We are doing The Crucible in the Fall. Does any one have suggestions for cuts/ or an abridged version?

I'd check with the publisher. Arthur Miller, and presumably his estate, was very particular about cuts and odd interpretations. I did see a professional production where actors played multiple roles and it worked really well.

The version supplied by DPS is the cut version as compared with the published paperback version of the script. The paperback version is the original version as done on Broadway. After the play had been running awhile, Miller re-wrote the play and directed it himself moving E.G. Marshall up from the role of Hale to Proctor. He also got rid of the scenery and did the show with only black curtains.

You should check with the publisher before making cuts or adaptations.

    HI,
The only cutting you can make legally is to do one of the acts. I wanted to do it as a one act several years ago. The word I got back from the publisher was that the only way to do a shortened version would be to do  one of the acts.

Thank you all for your input and insight regarding The Crucible. I have been in touch with Publisher and rec'd similar information regarding permission to do one act. We will do a full main stage production, but may do a single act for state competition.
