Fight scenes are awesome. I love to add in or choreograph (always safely) some sort of violence into most productions we do. We added a fight sequence before the opening scene of 'Antigone' (the armies of Polynieces and Eteocles going at it, followed by a one-on-one with P and E, then stabbing each other with a single strike dead at the climax). The Rumble from 'West Side Story' is also a great piece to play around with (or any violence to music).
Any Shakespeare. Invariably, there's some sort of fight. Yes, we did 'Romeo & Juliet', but we did it with a Viking motif, so broadswords and axes were the order of the day.
What a cool program you've got!

Subject: Stage Combat Scene Ideas and Playwriting Master Classes
We are working with a guest fight choreographer/instructor to create a stage combat showcase this fall. "Fight Night" will feature scripted and improvized scenes and we're looking for some new ideas beyond Romeo and Juliet and Taming of the Shrew. Any suggestions would be great.
Also, can anyone recommend a playwrighting master class/artist in residence? I know about Young Playwrights and Barrel of Monkeys and would like to hear about experiences with them or with other organizations specializing in working with high school theatre students.
Thanks!
