  • 1.  LGBTQ Monologue

So I am a high school student who competes in dramatic 10 minute monologues and this year I am adamant on finding an LGBTQ story to present. I was wondering if anyone knew of any sad or dramatic LGBTQ monologues I would be able to find the script for and perform.

You might want to look at the following plays:
    Pronoun by Evan Placey
Laramie Project by Moises Kauffman and Tectonic Theater Project
    Beautiful Thing by Jonathan Harvey

I would consider something from the Laramie Project, there are many monologues in that incredibly powerful piece. Can the monologues be original works? If so, perhaps you explore writing one? Maybe you know someone who identifies on the LGBTQIA+ spectrum that would be willing to tell their story?

    Good luck with this.

There is a play, Lost and Found by Marsha Sheiness based on interviews with LGTBQ teens. The play has 8 characters, all of whom are grappling with their sexual identities in a variety of ways. Each teen tells his or her story and the other actors participate in acting out the scenes. I'm sure you could find a monologue to extract there. I believe you can buy a downloadable PDF.

If this is for debate, you can adapt a prose work.  I'd talk to your librarian about books with LGBTQ+ characters.

And you will probably score better if you have two or more characters in the piece.

If it doesn't need to be a monologue taken from a full length play, then check out the anthologies Out and Allied Volumes one and two.  They have a mix of "performance pieces" including scenes/short plays, poems, monologues, and songs "contributed by youth from all over the United States.".  They are new to my bookshelf, but definitely seem to have multiple options.

The "Broadway" version is the 2013 Broadway version.  We did it last year; so much better than the original or Enchanted versions.

Hi there. You may consider reaching out to the conference team at the Pride Youth Theater Alliance. The participants may have devised monologues that could be available for actors. Additionally, the Alliance may have insights into the availability of other monologues by queer youth.
