  • 1.  Easy play for 4 women

I need help! I am teaching a theater class, and my hope was to work on a stage show throughout the year...I thought I would have 6 in the class, but I only have 4 (all girls). They are all very new to acting, and one is even an international student who is very shy. Are there any easy plays that would be good for them to do? Can anyone think of other activities that are easily adapted for such a small group?

    Thanks!

    Hi Amy,
I always think that using Open Scenes is a great way to start. There are books and web sites full of them--ambiguous, contentless scenes that your actors have to interpret and communicate the subtext of the dialogue and the circumstances of the scene by how they move and speak.
It's interesting to give the same scene to two different pairs of actors and see what they are able to do with the exact same lines of dialogue. I think you can also find or write Open Scenes for four actors.

If you take a look at most of the major sites,
Playscripts, Samuel French, Dramatic Publishing, Youth Plays, etc, you can define your search to only have scripts for four girls and no guys.

Some plays that popped up on playscripts were mostly one acts but are a good start, including
I Hate Shakespeare, Action News and Bad Auditions by Bad Actors.
