  • 1.  Peter Pan (1954) Alternate Orchestrations

    Hello everyone!

We are considering Peter Pan-- the 1954 Broadway one-- for our Middle School musical next year.  All the set and flying issues aside, our main concern is the orchestrations.

Has anyone ever produced this musical using fewer instruments than what is suggested?  What did you cut / combine?  How did you make it work?  MTI does not have any alternate orchestrations available, so I figured I would ask you!

    Thank you so much!

We use union musician, so we never use the full orchestration. We usually use a 5 piece mini orchestra. No alternate orchestration is needed. Your music director can go through the score and tell you what pieces are essential.

We just finished our run of Peter Pan and, as a very small private school, we always have a limited number of instruments. What we always do is hire a piano player to fill in the missing parts. We did this for Cinderella last year too and it worked well there as well. She just uses the piano score and that filled in the missing parts
