  • 1.  Constructing props. Anyone know how to make cotton candy props?

We are performing Tuck Everlasting, and I am having a heck of a time trying to make decent looking cotton candy.
    Can someone help me, please?

Great stuff foam is the greatest stuff ever!!!   I'm not sure how to position your sticks so that you can form your cotton candy on all sides.... but I would take a dowel rod, stick it into a foam ball (maybe glue it for extra strength)...then spray great stuff foam ($5 a can at Home Depot, Lowes, or Walmart, and it contains quite a bit of foam! Its real purpose is for insulation cracks) cover all over your foam ball, maybe in layers (spray, let dry, and spray again, repeat until you get the size you want). The finished expanded foam will give you a nice natural, smooth lumpy look (I tried it for popcorn in popcorn containers once, and it worked well, but my lumps were bigger than I hoped..). Just know it expands! Then I would paint it blue and pink, maybe add in some silver or pearl metallic paint to make it glimmer in the lights! Acrylic paint works well on it...spray paint too! I've used this stuff from creepy trees to popcorn, to animal heads (you can carve it too!)

Use pillow stuffing & spray paint.  You can make the cone out of white poster board.  Used this technique for "Seussical" when Mazie is at the circus.

I made realistic cotton candy for our Mayzie in Seussical:  I used polyester quilt batting, fluffed up a bit.  I diluted pink acrylic paint 50/50 with water and used a spray bottle to apply the paint to the batting.  Once dry, I wrapped the pink batting around a long thin cone made of card stock, using spray adhesive to glue it together.  Let that adhesive dry completely, fluff it up a bit and touch it up with a few sprays of paint where needed.  You can apply one more coat of adhesive and let it completely dry before touching it if you want a little insurance that it's going to hold together.
