    I'm trying to start some cool things at my school this year, and one thing is an awards program for my actors.  I'd like to have a special award for an ensemble member this year because I'd like to recognize the importance of being an ensemble member - much like the gypsy robe.  However, I don't know what to call it (even Gypsy Robe is getting a new name!).  Thoughts???

    Hi, Each year at our banquet, we give 2 best supporting actor, 2 best actor, 2 most valuable crew trophies, we give 2 most valuable Thespian medallions that the students wear at graduation.  We've started two additional awards: a rising star award given to a 9th or 10th grade student who is doing great work/showing ambition.  We also have a Shooting Star award that is given to a student who just exemplifies greatness, a positive attitude, and who is a joy to work with.  This student could be a cast or crew member and from any grade.  
    We are hoping that acknowledging attitude and preparation in addition to talent/ability will help everyone to feel like they COULD be recognized.  We also hope that these awards foster and support an environment that values work ethic as well as talent. 
    The students also give superlatives for funny, entertaining, and interesting performances at our One Act Festival for student work.  Hope this helps :)

    At the Cast Party on Closing Night, the Student Director gives everyone an award certificate (funny awards) like “Most Likely to Miss a Cue”.
    At our annual Drama Pot Luck Dinner, I talk about each kid individually in alphabetical order so their is no pecking order to it. Everyone gets a certificate award in either Participation or “Excellence In Acting” or Participation or Excellence In Crew. I tend to give the leads Excellence, and usually a few Ensemble Members who were excellent in their role although smaller. For Crew members, it’s based on how much & how well they did. When I’m finished with all the names, I give out Crew awards for Actors who also worked on Crew. Participation & Excellence In Scenery Painting for those who worked Saturday mornings with us, Excellence In Dance for those who were, Excellence In Fundraising for those who sold many Program Ads, Boosters & Sponsorships. At graduation we give out “Best Thespian” Medallions to 1 boy & 1 girl. One year it was 2 girls. It is not the best actors but those who best exemplify what it means to be a Thespian, usually the ones who come every week on Saturday, who hold leadership roles in meetings, those kids who we always rely on who act as “Guy/Gal Friday’s”, the Ones who do all the work, sometimes they also happen to be the leads.

    Our ensemble award is called "Spirit of the Ensemble".  It goes to a select few who are there no matter what and do whatever they can to serve the show/s and help others.

    I am offering 2 ensemble awards for our first musical this year: Best Performance in an Ensemble Role, and a Student's Choice--Ensemble Role which the students have anonymously voted on (thank you google forms, makes it SO easy). That way 2 of my 8 kiddos have recognition, and we'll carry on this award for all shows.
