Suggestions for a wedding song?

  • 1.  Suggestions for a wedding song?

A more bizarre and perhaps whimsical question, for sure, but I have a student who is getting married and wants to perform a musical number at his wedding, and so he asked me for suggestions. Unfortunately, because of my warped sense of humor I can only think of 'I Am Aldopho' from 'The Drowsy Chaperone,' or that extra soppy one from Phantom.

Any suggestions? I'm still catching up on musicals. I think romantic, maybe comedic/encouraging...???

    Adolpho!!! Awesome!!!! hahahaha :)

Is it a solo or duet?

If it's a duet...how about "Love Song" from Pippin?

"The Next 10 Minutes" from Last Five Years.

More traditional route: "If I Loved You" from Carousel

"Do I Love You Because You're Wonderful" from Cinderella

"Unexpected Song" from Song and Dance

"In a Very Unusual Way" from NINE

"Marry Me" from The Rink (Kander and Ebb)....AWESOME SONG!!!!

I had two of my good friends sing the duet, "I Do, I Do" from "I Do, I Do" right before I came down the aisle.

There is also "Love Changes Everything" from "Aspects of Love."

"Yesterday I Loved You" from Once Upon a Mattress. It's a duet, but could easily be sung by the guy all the way through.

Despite its context in the show (it's precedes an orgy scene), "With You", from Pippin is a beautiful, romantic song, about pledging ones love. (In the show, Pippin sings bits of it to several women.)

You Must Love Me - Evita

Night and Day - Anything Goes

A Heart Full of Love - Les Miserables

Sun and Moon - Miss Saigon

As Long As Your Mine - Wicked

Some of these are for women, but could be transcribed into a lower range.

I have been asked to sing any number of songs from the musical "I do; I do". There are great duets and solos...some of us "old enough" may remember the great Ed Ames singing, "My Cup Runneth Over".

You guys rock! I felt like a buffoon as songs were mentioned from musicals I know and love already... must be all that techno/EDM banging around my head. Thank you so much for all the suggestions!

His wedding is in less than 30 days. So I gave him about a dozen titles from the first responders...thanks all!

    Love this community!
