    Greetings.
I need suggestions for plays for my high school students. We have schedule conflicts and space considerations that limit our use of the stage, so I cannot build a huge set.

In the last couple of years we have staged Almost, Maine and Who Am I This Time (and Other Conundrums of Love). My students did amazing work and we were able to share space because our sets were small.

Does anyone have suggestions for similar sorts of plays?

    Thank you!

Here are a few suggestions off the top of my head:

Laramie Project -  no set needed except a few chairs, lots of parts and small scene work
The Women of Lockerbie - no set needed, lots of small scenes and expandable to include lots of parts
All I really need to know, I learned in Kindergarten - small scene work, props and maybe some projections
1984 - desks, chairs and projections for Big Brother, small scene work, but need a strong male to carry the show
A Few Good Men - need chairs and judges bench, lots of male roles
12 Angry Men (Jurors) - especially if you do in the round
The Complete Work of William Shakespeare, Reduced - fun, expandable, with small scene work
The Heidi Chronicles - could be a bit edgy for high school, but it has lots of small scenes

    Break a leg!

We closed "Does My Head Look Big inThis?"  about a Palestinian-Muslim-American girl who decides to start wearing Hijab full time...  One of the highlights of my career so far.  All simple Suggested sets/props.  The show has lots of humor with a big heart!  and you get a chance to explore Islam as part of the dramaturgy!!!  (we even visited a <g class="gr_ gr_695 gr-alert gr_gramm gr_inline_cards gr_run_anim Grammar multiReplace" id="695" data-gr-id="695">Mosque as</g> a school field trip!!!)  So awesome!

Seems like a good time, even if it might seem like a bad time to do this show!
    (plus the name of your town and stuff... it <g class="gr_ gr_823 gr-alert gr_spell gr_inline_cards gr_run_anim ContextualSpelling ins-del" id="823" data-gr-id="823">kinds</g> fits)

I am getting ready to produce a new play by Stephen Dietz  called "This Random World".  It requires little to no set and it's a fascinating play. You can get it through Playscripts & DPS. It is very lovely and I am excited about producing and directing it! It is similar in structure to Almost Maine, one of my very favorite players of all time.

From DPS~. THE STORY: We want to believe that serendipity brings us together, but is that just a myth? Mining the comedy of missed connections, THIS RANDOM WORLD asks the serious question of how often we travel parallel paths through the world without noticing. From an ailing woman who plans one final trip, to her daughter planning one great escape and her son falling prey to a prank gone wrong, this funny, intimate, and heartbreaking play explores the lives that may be happening just out of reach of our own.
"…affecting…The characters are drawn with empathy and humor, and the cascading series of coincidences neatly illustrates the idea that, as the title suggests, we are all hostages to chance." -NY Times. "…succeeds on every level…It's the sort of play you walk away from having fallen completely in love with every person on the stage…The play is also fast and funny, delivering constant comedy that comes from the characters and their foibles, including numerous instances of the laughter that comes from a place of painful self recognition." -Arts-Louisville.com. "…wistful and often very funny…Dietz's premise holds power and grace. It makes us consider-as we constantly reassure ourselves with what is certain-how much we really do not know in any given situation." -The Courier Journal.

All in the Timing by David Ives would be a great choice! It’s 7 one acts (similar to Almost, Maine) with titles such as The Philadelphia and Variations on the Death of Trotsky.
