Looking for a small cast show. 2 males or 2 males 1 female.

    Thoughts?

'The Dumb Waiter' by Harold Pinter. Awesomeness in a bowl of classic menace.

Just got inspired by another post elsewhere, but 'The Woman in Black' is two males and one silent female. Dumb Waiter is two males.

Is 'Look Back in Anger' two males and one female? Can't quite remember...

I'll second Phillip's suggestion of A Woman in Black. Two male actors who play a  number of roles each, and one female role which doesn't have any lines but needs to be acted very precisely if the play is going to work.

The play is different from the movie in that it takes place in an empty theatre where the protagonist is rehearsing a play about a ghost with the help of a professional actor. It requires a minimal set (only bits and pieces that you would find on a stage anyway, plus a scrim). It has been playing for over 25 years in London.

You can find lots of info on it on the play's web site, at The Woman In Black

We decided to turn our modern proscenium arch into a Victorian one, but there's no need to do this. The play can be staged very simply.

If you are looking for a one-act, take a look at plays from Thespian Playworks!  The one that comes to mind for me is Circuits by Rachel Lepore -  two males and one female, but I bet there are others that are smaller casts.

I guess it depends on what format you're looking for?  A  full-length, one-act, or shorter?

There's a short play called "The Ledge, Ledger, and the Legend" that is mostly just two guys.

If you're looking for a one-act, there's a great one called Keepers at the Edge of the Sea that I think is available from Brooklyn Publishing. 2 male, 1 female.

    The Zoo Story.  Edward Albee.

There are so many scripts from the Theatre of the Absurd that fit the bill.

Neil Simon's The Star Spangled Girl would probably play well as a period piece, but it's hilarious.

I would suggest Greater Tuna by Jaston Williams, Joe Sears, and Ed Howard.   It was done originally with Williams and Sears playing all 22 roles.  I've seen it performed this way several times.  Very funny!!

While I'm not sure what running time you're looking for, a few thoughts on plays for two men:

The Zoo Story by Edward Albee, which others have already recommended. Probably my favorite one-act of all time.
Lonely Planet by Steven Dietz, an absolutely gorgeous play about AIDS, though it never actually mentions it by name.
The Mystery of Irma Vep, Charles Ludlam's hilarious satire, and a whole lot of costuming fun.

Of course, these are all challenging pieces for young actors, as all were intended for adult performers. But that's another discussion. Happy hunting.

    Cheers,
    Jonathan
