  • 1.  Wednesday’s Wisdom From EdTA Sage Emeritus

We are baaack. We have 10 Sages who have committed to post on Wednesdays Sept-Dec. 2022. Hopefully you might take a moment, read, and consider some of our words.

What do students learn by being in a Drama class? My student WILL NOT go into Theatre as a career.

I heard those questions. So I prepared my elevator speech (which is a short impassioned monologue which can be delivered to a captive audience between floors as the elevator ascended or descended).
”Hi, my name is Gai Laing Jones. I have taught and directed students of all ages for over 50 years. I believe in the life skills that students learn and practice daily in Theatre classes and rehearsals. To share a few: collaboration, communication, connections, creativity,  empathy, listening skills, thinking quickly. Theatre is a safe space for experimenting with creative choices, receiving feedback, making adjustments. This is just a few of valuable life skills, besides receiving applause. Everyone deserves a daily round of applause.”

This is a valuable short experience for your advanced students to prepare.
