We are taking on Shrek for our musical.  Does anyone have any designs that worked well for the dragon.  We have a large stage, but very little wing space. Creating the pro's and con's of building/renting a full size Dragon or just her head.

This youtube post was our inspiration and then we found a blog that had a tutorial.  It worked mostly but definitely took a lot of work.  We also collaborated with the art department.  https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=b90SySCMAhs.  The school is going to display it for campus tours now that the show is over.

She ended up being so big that she had to be housed in the house and come through the audience. It ended up working ok
You can see the operators here. The head had to be attached to a camping type backpack so the actor could see through the mouth of the dragon. Everyone else had thick dowel rods that they held. They just managed to switch to the upstage side of the dragon so an to not be seen. The ribs were pex piping. Then we attached it to the spine which was pvc, covered with pool noodles and we even used old garden hose to connect each section. Lot of glue of course. We tried dry ice coming out of the mouth but it didn't work like we thought
