  • 1.  Tech/Design PDs

    Hi All,

Is there a list anywhere of possible tech/design PDs for HS teachers?

I'm not holding my breath at the moment, as I struggle to convince my administration to hire a tech director/teacher/production coordinator colleague, so I think I need to refresh my memory and get some solid training in tech. I'm in NYC so obviously I'm in the heart of the beast and could hire someone to train me in things (one option) but are there programs out there for this very thing?

    Thanks,
    Joan

    Hi Joan,

Check out my book "High School Theatre Operations" for information you can take to your admin, and also on my website is a school "self-assessment" you can do, to take to your admin.  Please see the link to my website in my signature line below.

I'm not currently offering the online course for high school theatre management, but please let me know if there is anything I can help you with.

    All the best,
    Beth

I haven't heard of any PDs specifically on set, lighting, or costume design (there are several resources on the technical end of these areas), but I think they would be very useful for HS teachers. In the meantime, there are a number of books on theatrical design available online. Amazon has several, but be sure to read the reviews before investing in them: a lot of these books gloss over the design part and go right into the construction or other technical areas.
