Theatre In Our Schools Month is right around the corner! TIOS is a time to celebrate theatre education and raise awareness of the impact that theatre has had on your school and community at large. Throughout the month, grassroots campaigns will highlight how participation in school theatre programs helps students develop critical skills and create well-rounded, empathetic, and thoughtful leaders.
What can this look like in your school?
- Have students create a combination of announcements, displays, or special presentations
- Take your theatre program on the road to visit other schools or invite them to visit yours for a special presentation
- Post about the impact of theatre in your school on social media. Let local newspapers, radio, and television outlets know about Theatre In Our Schools Month and your advocacy efforts.
- Schedule a meeting with elected officials or policymakers such as school board members, town officials, or elected representatives in order to offer information, messages, or presentations about the value of theatre in our schools.
Also, schools that document their advocacy efforts can apply for the TIOS Outstanding Impact Award, presented by Disney Theatrical Group and Music Theatre International.
