  • 1.  Fiddler on the Roof Shoes

    We are doing a production of Fiddler on the Roof and having a hard time finding shoes for the show.  

    1) What kind of shoes should the Men Have? / Women?

    Where can we find/ borrow, rent or buy ?

    Hi Jerry,

    We did Fiddler several years ago. We always provide the costumes but require the students to purchase their own shoes. We found it way too difficult /time consuming to try to fit each student with shoes since not all are the same and it got very expensive to boot.  I wanted to keep everything as traditional as possible so I told the kids to stay away from anything with buckles, zippers or that looked too modern. I've attached the pictures I provided the students to help them on their search. Honestly, most of the time you can find these style shoes at the thrift store if you have the time to do a little thrift store hopping. Some kids did purchase off of amazon or at a local shoe store.

    Hello Jerry,

    For Tevye and Lazar and a very few other of the male characters, we used some boots that we found online that weren't too expensive.  

    Most of the villagers simply wore jazz boots (male and female).
    The russian soldiers wore jazz boots with calf length spats that one of our costumers sewed.  She sewed velcro into the ends of those spats so they were quick and easy to take off and put on.  There was enough rigidity in them so they stayed up.
