Here's a tip that might help anyone hoping to share/rent/borrow/trade show pieces with another organization:
Go to the website of the company who holds the rights, find the show and look for “now playing” or “upcoming productions.” You can often filter by date, state, etc. Search for recent or upcoming productions within your area (or wherever you are willing to travel). If the results don't list a website for the school or company, just do a simple Google search with the production name and school/company (Ex. The Little Mermaid at ABC High School) to help you locate the director, producer or stage manager.
Reach out and ask about trading or borrowing props, costumes, or sets. For the best results, don't expect a free handout, think of something you could provide in return. In my experience, it’s always generated a positive exchange and even new friendships and partnerships!
