Good School Theatre Web sites - Recommendations?

  • 1.  Good School Theatre Web sites - Recommendations?

Does your school have a good web site for students, families, the community to access?
Do you know of a good one that another school has?
I am looking for examples for my students, so please feel free to respond with a link or two!
    Thanks.

    Hey gang,

Our website for both our troupe and theatre department is: http://www.improvateers.com
I built the site myself using Dreamweaver and hosted with ipower.com (it's inexpensive and provides a tremendous amount of features).  It helps that that's what I used to do before being a real boy (that is, a teacher) and I still dabble a bit in the web design world but shows keep me too busy.  Occasionally, I'll send my honors acting students over to my acting studio site (http://www.dramedyacting.com) in particular the blog where they can get a little dose of acting training outside of the confines of the public school classroom.

I'm happy to help guide, suggest, point folks where I get my resources just shoot me an email:  theatreartsteach@gmail.com

    Happy Webbing!

Here are the sites we use at Hilliard Davidson. The Davidson Theatre site is our public face and the Tech Crew site is a collection of resources for students.

I use WIX for our website and I LOVE it. Have used Weebly before and I like WIX much much better. Very easy to use and lots of options to customize. You can really make it your own, as fancy or simple as you please. Easy for my student PR/Historian to use too.

I look at MANY school websites, as I'm sure you can imagine! All of your examples so far are absolutely fabulous.

My mother uses Squarespace for her program's website (phsmusical.org), and I use them for my personal website. I love how clean and elegant their templates are, and I think it's really easy to edit and update content.

Our district website is not especially user-friendly. I have heard they are developing a new one.

I have maintained a website for our theatre program and Thespian troupe for nearly 17 years -- ever since I leveraged the site a student had designed in GeoCities.

This fall I had to quickly create a new website in Wix when I discovered my website software was no longer being supported by the manufacturer. We host on 1and1 but will switch to Wix when the current contract expires.

I have collected all the web site addresses and my students will be visiting your sites for ideas and motivation to create their own next semester!

What a great idea to get high school students thinking about a school theatre website! There's such a wide discrepancy in high school theatre websites, from "Gold Standard" to non-existent.

School theatre websites are important to have for a variety of reasons and uses. In fact, one of the assignments for the students (high school Drama teachers, in this case) in my online Theatre Management class is to create a functional and useful website outline for their school theatre, or to come up with ideas to improve their existing websites. (We don't get into the technical side of creating a website, we primarily address content.) They all do awesome jobs, so I'll pass this on to the students from the recently ended session, and suggest they contact you with their information and ideas.

Weebly is Bae. Personally didn't get along with Wix, but I last used Wix over 7 years ago, and much may have changed. I personally loved Weebly and found it very intuitive and easy to manage, and was also able to do quick edits on my phone when I needed to quickly correct something.

Increasingly, a website for your troupe is another essential tool to include in your theatre program. Most parents and students will first hear about you and then research you online before coming out to anything, as I discovered! We definitely had an increase in involvement when we had an online presence. We also had a link to online ticket purchases, what our upcoming shows were, details about summer camp, as well as past production photos (a very popular area of the site).

Whilst it is a small pain in the bum and yet another job title to add to Theatre Teacher/Troupe Director/Technical Manager/Coach/Cat Herder/Website Manager, it is worth the time and effort to look at and get established, and you've got some absolutely wonderful examples to look at in this thread!
