  • 1.  Looking for a Vocal Director

So I just found out that our choir director will not be helping out with this years musical. Makes sense, just had kid #5. We don't start working on it until January, so I have a little bit of time. But I have little idea where to even start looking. I am going to reach out to colleges in my area, hoping for good grad students and the like, but aside from that I am at a loss.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I am in Oakland County, Michigan if anyone has someone in the area.

I had awesome luck with grad students before I found someone more permanent. The only problem with grad students is that they tend to leave after finishing school. Check around with your local theaters to see who they use, check in with other local theater and choir teachers, church choir directors, etc. The network of music people isn't that big, so someone is likely to know someone who can help you.

Don’t limit yourself to grad students. I have had great results with undergrads as well. If they have done musical theatre in high school and are music majors they ‘get it’.
