While I don't bring kids to ITF (guest artist every year instead), I have had to look at who can audition at State because of a limitation in numbers allowed. Some of the criteria I've used are:
- Theatrical Resume
- Work ethic in class and rehearsal
- An individual interview (with other people on the panel who don't know the kids) to covers not only what their hopes for schooling are, but what their overall hope for the future is
- If necessary a written request outlining what they hope for the future, why they think they are the best choice for one of the slots and how they have been involved in the department throughout their high school career.
What a great issue to have though!
