I'm in the market for a quirky musical, something in the vein of Urinetown, Avenue Q, or Lucky Stiff. High school appropriate (mostly, we have some wiggle room), flexible cast size, and good female roles, as usual. Thoughts?

SOMETHING'S AFOOT is a quirky musical spoof on Agatha Christie's 10 Little Indians. It is a hoot! I did it where the audience sat inside the mansion. Totally environmental-actually had an actor die on an audience member!

If you do choose Starmites,  just wanted you to know that the composer/lyricist Barry Keating is a friend of mine - perhaps he would speak to the group.--

Weird Romance, Zombie Prom, Return to the Forbidden Planet.  I have done all 3. They are all quirky and fun.

Quirky? How about all of the original Monty Python TV sketches gathered together along with 5 of their songs (unison singing)?
Ministry of Silly Walks, Dead Parrot, Gumby Theatre etc.

Since the Pythons started as all-male on TV, guys with facial hair don horrible wigs and use falsetto voices to play women.
And vice-versa: girls don crooked moustaches and/or beards to play men.

Small cast: doubling in many sketches
Or large cast: concentrating on 1-2 sketches

Tracks included for the songs. Runs ~80 minutes.

    Beware...The Spanish Inquisition!

"Disaster" is the first thing that comes to mind. Jukebox musical with the best of the worst of the music of the 70s with a ridiculous setting of a casino ship going through every bad 70s disaster movie possible (tsunami, rats, sharks, earthquake, you name it). Some characters are over the top goofy, and even the "straight men" get comedic moments.

and...do you remember the lawnchair man story in the news a few decades back??
This musical was a GREAT deal of fun for us, too:

You may hesitate on these, but I had VERY talented groups these years and they TOTALLY got into them!

The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee-Original Broadway Version (2005)- requires little set, and is really clever with a flexible cast and catchy tunes that fit most ranges.

Thanks for all the fun suggestions! I'll definitely look into some of these. @Andrea Rassler, I've been sitting on SYMPATHY JONES for like four years now. I want to do it SO BAD, but I haven't had the right guys for those voice ranges. And unfortunately, I don't think I will next year, either. :-(
