I have a student who wants to do a song from Grease for her IE. I am wondering how over done Grease is at this time.  Anyone have any thoughts on this?

Depends. If it's "There are Worse Things I Could Do" I would steer her away from it.

Agreed on "There Are Worse Things I Could Do." I might steer her towards other 1950s themed musicals. I just heard a young actress rip up IEs with a song from Promises, Promises of all things. Have her take a look at Cry-Baby and Memphis and basically every jukebox musical ever written. Although be careful with jukebox musicals and IEs, since, all too often, students forget that they're acting pieces and not just isolated vocal performances.

I also steer my kids away from this musical. Is there a particular reason this show in particular is wanted? Once you know why it shouldn't be too difficult to find another piece that hits similar acting and vocal points without coming from such an overdone piece.
