    Dear costumers,

We are looking for feature article sources for a story encouraging young, aspiring costume designer-Thespians to explore non-theatre-yet-still-theatrical opportunities to gain skills, boost the resume, and find inspiring mentors. In particular, we'd love to track down at least one adult member and at least one current Thespian who has experience in and passion for costuming either for historical reenactments and/or Renaissance faires or cosplay events.

Sound like any of you -- and/or your students?

    Thanks!
    Anita

Not answering your question directly, but I did a post on my blog here earlier this year (and quoting two EdTA members) on how theatre can lead to a lot of careers in and out of the entertainment industry. It might have a bit or two you can use. In my own case, my grad work on set design led to a fifteen-year career in architecture before I came back to theatre.

You can read it at https://setdesignandtech.wordpress.com/2018/03/06/theater-can-lead-to-a-lot-of-careers/

Thanks, George! This is really cool -- I love the example of high-end Commedia dell'Arte mask-making.

    Hi Anita,

I am a cosplayer, Ren Faire re-enactor, as well as a theatre teacher. I make all my own costumes and I regularly attend conventions and Ren Faires. The two characters I cosplay the most are Harley Quinn and Ariel. My husband joins me in all my cosplays. He cosplays Joker, Eric, Bane and loves to re-enact in his Ren costumes. I would love to share my passion for cosplay and costumes with you if you are interested.

    Hi Anita,

I have two alumni who have been big winners at the San Diego ComicCon for their Cosplay costumes. One has a line of clothing coming out with Hot Topic, and the other one makes her living building costumes and props to sell.

Let me know if you would like their contact information.
