  • 1.  EdTA National Conference

    Hello,

I am in my second year as theatre director and was thinking about going to the National Conference in Nashville this September. Any advice or suggestions? Are the intensives something that you found beneficial? I am sure it is a wonderful experience and would love to connect with the community. Just trying to figure out if it is something I should invest the time and money in, especially at the beginning of the school year.

    Thank you so much!

    Hi Sara,

I went last year to the conference in Las Vegas and I have been to several others throughout the years. It is a great opportunity for new information and instruction to take to your classroom and theatre program. I highly recommend it. It is the perfect opportunity to network with theatre teachers from across the country who share your same passion, but face similar challenges.

I am so glad that the conference is in my home city here in Nashville. I know everyone attending the conference will enjoy their time in Music City.

    Best,

    Sarah,

I highly recommend it! I went last year for the first time and it has improved my practice and my network of collaborators. I have been teaching since 1999 and would have loved to have gotten the information and workshops at that time in my career.

    Yours in Art,

    Jason

I absolutely recommend it!  The conference as a whole is usually the best PD I get all year.  If the PDIs offered are on topics that you feel you could use in your classroom/school/program, I would definitely recommend going.  I went to one last year and it was awesome.

I 100% agree with everyone else. Conference is a great way to get new ideas and methodologies to use in your classroom. It's also one of the only times in the year where (for me at least) I get the chance to talk with people in our profession; especially those outside of my home state. It's also a great way to recharge. I go every year and, even though it puts something of a dent into my finances, it's more than worth it. I always come back ready to throw myself full force into the rest of the school year (and since we start in July I'm already approaching midterms when I go)

    Hi Sarah,

So happy to see that you are thinking about attending EdTA's National Conference this year, and it's wonderful to see all of the positive responses to your post!

I wanted to link to the grants page of our website (found here: Grants - EdTA - Educational Theatre Association) where you can find information about our National Conference Grant for Theatre Educators.  If you're interested, I would highly encourage you (and everyone on the thread!) to take a look.

Love the conference.  Sorry I had to miss last year's stint in Vegas.  Looking forward to getting back into it next year.

My conference question is,  does anyone know when the workshop and PDI schedule will be posted (site says soon)?  Trying to get my paperwork in order for next year (requesting partial reimbursement from district), and I know the earlybird deadline is approaching fast.
