Hi all,
I was looking back over my most recent production license, and I caught something I've never noticed before. I know it usually says something about not changing the race or gender of a character, but look closely at what it now says about the actor matching the specified race and gender. That seems really restrictive to me and undermines color-blind and gender-blind casting. In a high school setting where I have way more girls than boys, I have been often known to cast women in "pants" roles, and they do an awesome job. And where does this leave transgender or non-binary students? I'm interested your thoughts. Or am I way over-worrying?
This license is from Dramatists Play Service. Are the other publishers doing the same?
