There is a wonderful story of a Hairspray production from last weekend that involved multiple NYC schools including one in the Bronx.
The project was funded through the Educational Theatre Foundation's RISE America grants in partnership with NBC. Check it out:

Hello all!
Long time reader of posts, but infrequent poster.
My school is doing Hairspray, and it's the second musical in the history of the school! I'm actually the first ever full time theatre teacher. We're a Title 1 school in the South Bronx.
I would love to provide these students with a great experience. Unfortunately, as you all know, money is scarce.
Does anyone have any Hairspray costumes I could rent or borrow for cheap? Or know where I could go for little money? I would take responsibility for transport and cleaning.
Thank you so much! Keep up doing your good work!
Best,
Erin
