I've been looking for a Lord Farquaad costume but haven't found one yet. Our performance is April 30. In order to make one, could someone share how it works? I think I understand the legs attached to knees but what covers the actors legs from being seen by the audience? Mblevins@caschools.us

Our actor wore black pants and shoes and the fake legs (we used pool noodles covered by baby tights and black toddler boots) are attached to the front of the hips. The top of the tights were sewn onto the black pants. The heels of the boots were glued to the knees.
Over that, the actor wore a tunic (rented) long enough to cover the top of the legs. We put a Spider-Man costume underneath it to bulk him up a bit. Finally, a large red cape tied around the neck & I glued a black lining onto the inside of the cape so the actor’s legs and feet blended in with the cape.

Hi, so we had a costume department but we Designed the mechanism with umpire knee pads as the were hard plastic that covered most of the leg and protected the actors knees. The costumer then got stocking and sewed one end shut, stuffed them and but a ball at the knee area to give it some structure then sewed the rest. We attached shoes to the knee pads where they would hit the floor when he was down with bolts through the shoes and the pads but stayed under the pads as not to hit the actor. Along with every cape he had black fabric was added that stretched down to where his feet were and attached to the outside of the pads. The capes did a similar thing to hide the black.

The answer to your question is NOTHING. It is the willing suspension of disbelieve that allows the audience to ignore the actors legs behind him.

We had the actor wear black pants and knee pads. We made a farquaad tunic and legs for the actor playing the role. We added a re crushed velvet cape with a fur trim and black underneath to cover the actors and the rest of his legs. I have the tunic if interested, as well as the hat.
