Hi Michael,
I've always made my own plaster masks. They look pretty good and the actors design and make their own masks, which is a nice part of the process. It can be a bit messy, and make sure you remember to apply vaseline before laying down the wet plaster strips, but it's fun.
That being said, I happened upon this person who helps people make their own paper masks, and the end result looks pretty amazing.

Subject: Commedia Masks
Hello!
I am directing a Commedia play in June and wanted to know if anyone had any recommendations on obtaining good quality Commedia masks. Willing to rent, purchase, or even create (if anyone has an crafty recommendations!). I want them to look as traditional as possible. Thanks!
