Anyone done the Playscripts CLUE: High School Edition. I am considering it for our fall 2019 show.
I would like to expand the cast to about 20-25?
Sounds effects..anyone rent them from ROCS?
Just love some feedback about the show.

I also wanted to do "Clue" this fall. I put in for permission and was first denied because there is to be a national tour starting. Then, they changed their minds and said we could do it, but royalties would be $180 per show. We can't afford that for a straight play that has a relatively small cast, so I declined.

We did Clue this past season and my kids enjoyed it. You could probably expand the cast by adding maids and other butlers and agents at the end, but there isn't much more you can do besides that. We rented our music from ROCS and that made life so much easier for me. If you have any other questions let me know, I think the hardest part for us was making the dummies look realistic.

I am also looking at this show for next year. Anyone without a fly system do this show? We don't have one...How did you facilitate all of the scene/room changes?

I also did this in the Fall, and my students liked it.
Royalties are a bit more expensive, and the ROCS tracks were good.
We did it without a fly, though we did build a second level. We also rolled on two carts for the dining room, and had the study on a cart. The kitchen was just an open door that had a fridge on the inside, like they did in the original.

We don't have a fly system and pulled it off. We built wagons and had our library, conservatory, study and kitchen on them. The dining room was played in front of our mid traveler and we had a platform up stage for our door and main hall.

We did Clue in the Spring. Students love it and it drew a large audience for a straight show. It's actually quite a hard show to expand the cast, because one of the re-occurring lines, as they determine the culprits, is "Who else is in the house?" You can add as many agents as needed for the last scene.

I rented sound effects from ROCS and regretted it. The ROCS tracks are primarily backing music, not the needed sound effects so we needed to find our own sound effects and simultaneously play them on a separate software which was frustrating. The music does add a lot to the show. If you have the capacity, having live music would be ideal. The royalties come with sheet music.

We did not have a fly system and built a set slightly similar to the one pictured above. We had 3 sets of doors on wheels on each side of the stage which rotated and moved throughout the stage to suggest different rooms.

Let me know if there are any other questions!

From those that have done it...any push back? My school is pretty conservative and I'm wondering how it will go over. Still considering it for sure.

I'm interested in this show as well. I haven't read the scripts but I saw that there was a high school version. Does anyone know the differences between the two versions?

    Cheers,

I did the HS version. It takes out some of the innuendo -- mostly between the maid and Mustard.
