  • 1.  Theatre Program Director position/job description

    Posted 05-22-2018 05:57
    Hi all!
My school is looking at taking an antiquated extra-curricular position of “play sponsor” and turning it into a “theatre program director” position. The county office has asked for a job description for the new title. Does anyone hold an extra-curricular position similar and if so, how much is the stipend? Also, can you attach the job description?

Thank you! We do so much more than just “sponsor” plays! I run a full program from August until June including pre-audition events, multiple fundraisers and fundraising events, thespians, producing a one act, producing a full scale musical, and facilitating summer theatre camp.

A fourth position to add to the three I mentioned in the Full-Time TD discussion:

Theatre Manager - management position (may or may not work with students directly)

Technical Director - hands-on operations position (possibly/probably works with students directly)

Teacher of a Tech Theatre Class – teaching position (works with students directly)

    and…

    Production Producer

Sounds like you are looking for someone to act as a Producer for your productions? This is a person who does all the 'management' of your Drama department productions (as opposed to a Theatre Manager, who manages all of the events that come into a theatre, but is not involved in any of them), which leaves the Drama teacher free to concentrate on the directing. At one high school, where I was hired as a Resident Lighting Designer/Technician, we had such a person. She was a parent who happened to have a professional background in producing plays (we lucked out!). We were extra lucky, because after her daughter graduated, she stayed on as producer for a few years after that.

She was always paid a stipend, but I don't know what it was (almost certainly not what she was worth!). Also check out the discussion, and the attachments, about pay rates in the Coaches pay discussion.
