  • 1.  Edgar Allen Poe play from DRAMATICS?

    Posted 07-23-2019 09:30
    Hi all,
I have a vague memory of seeing a play about Edgar Allen Poe or his works in an issue of DRAMATIC several years ago, but I don't see it in my stash. Does anyone remember what that play was or what issue it was in?

    Thanks!

I can't remember the issue, but if you're looking for some good options take a look at Playscripts. They have A Nightfall with Edgar Allen Poe and An Evening With Edgar Allen Poe. I really like both of them.

You may be thinking of Dominic Orlando's "Nevermore," published in the January 2009 issue of Dramatics. It is available through Playscripts (https://www.playscripts.com/play/1506).

I produced this play about 6 years ago and we all loved it.  It was from the Drama Magazine listed below.  You can also call the company in Boston and they will answer your questions.  I am traveling and cannot look at my stored scripts, but they are very helpful when you call

I don't know the one from the magazine, but Nevermore makes a fantastic production. If time permits, you might also think of taking one or more of the Poe tales and having students construct a play using characters from one or more of the short plays. I've done that with playwriting students and they come up with ingenious designs. I find they learn something not only from delving into the stories but also from reconstructing them into a coherent piece.
