Can Sister Act work if there is no racial diversity in our program.

We just did a successful run last Fall. Our original Delores was of color, but she dropped out. Our replacement was definitely not, so we alteerd the few obvious lines and it worked well.

Yes- as long as you have a strong enough actress that can play the "outcast" role correctly. You really need a strong, solid actress- good with both comedy and drama and a stellar voice. We did it in 2017 and people loved it. Although, keep in mind, the music is completely different than in the movie. Students, parents, and audience members were all a little surprised with that.

We just ran it with an all white cast.  We emailed MTI and asked for permission. They told us to remove anything racially oriented.  We asked if our Deloris could be Canadain (we are Canadian School).  When asked by our local reporter at the paper about the racial change.... I answered that it is a story about a self centered girl who does things for herself and only thinks about her own gain... who through community finds sisterhood and companionship where she wants to put others before herself.  These are things that are related to personality... not race.
