The National Theatre for Student Artists' (NTSA) Directing Program is currently looking for high school senior assistant directors, choreographers, and music directors for our off-Broadway productions of
The Dolls of New Albion and
Loserville at the York Theatre this summer. In the program, students work alongside NYC-based theatre professionals to direct/choreograph entire scenes and musical numbers in the production and receive extensive one-on-one mentorship throughout the process. Previous NTSA student directors have gone on to start their own off-Broadway theatre companies, create work for prestigious New York City residency programs (like HERE Arts Center's SubletSeries and Abrons Arts Center's AIRspace Program), receive emerging artist fellowships (at theatres like Manhattan Theatre Club and on productions like Broadway's
Anastasia), and be hired by NTSA in subsequent years.
There is no tuition fee for the program. Housing and meals on campus cost $2,110 for the three-week rehearsal period; however, there is financial aid available for students who are unable to pay for lodging. We're just looking for the most promising young artistic leaders from across the country!
To apply, students should visit our website. Please feel free to email me at
vchatfield@nationalstudenttheatre.org if you have any questions.
(If you have talented student directors who are freshmen, sophomores, and/or juniors, there's a separate program available for them called the NTSA Directors Studio; however, there is a $500 tuition fee for that program in addition to housing and meals. It's the same format as the assistant director program, but students also attend daily three-hour seminars in directing.)
