I really would see if the Barbizon rep will come visit with you and do a walk through, spend some time with you and see what your needs are. They can prepare a series of quotes for you for gear and can help guide you toward purchases and equipment that suits your needs and the comfort level of your crew, building, future needs, etc. This needs to be gear you feel comfortable working with. Barbizon will bring out stuff for you to work with as well. There are a lot of options.
Consider also, touring some nearby schools and universities. What sorts of capabilities do they have that you like. What sorts of boards, instruments, etc do they like to work with. You might find a friend and advocate this way.
Other reps will come visit you as well, so don't hesitate to ask them to come and visit with you.

I would get some local professionals involved.
And as always for equipment and tools - the old adage is the best one:
"Buy the best you can afford!"

what sound & light boards you have worked on and think are of the highest quality, and second best? Sound and light equipment is an aspect of technical theater that I am not knowledgeable about.
Also where would I find pricing or a good instal company for rigging(Ft Worth TX), we will not have a fly space, but I would like to have batons.
I need to present pricing to my school President and educate him on quality equipment for our new theater building.
